D of E Bronze Expedition on the Isle of Wight. After catching the hovercraft from
Portsmouth to Ryde and the island train, 6 teams set off on their own routes on a 2
day 15 mile weekend. During the weekend the assessors caught up with the groups at
various points to ensure they were following their route plans. Camping at Ventnor the
groups woke to a very stormy Sunday morning. After breakfast and packing up they
braved the elements for final days walking. It certainly tested their equipment and
mental resolve. All groups really deserved passing the expedition.
November 2003
More enrolments, this time with the kind permission of the Royal Navy. Explorers,
Leaders and parent help traveled to Portsmouth dockyard for a trip around
HMS Chiddingfold a minesweeper in the Royal Navy. Not a lot of room on these ships
but we found room on the deck to enrol our new members (into explorers not the navy).
On the way home it was a fish and chips supper in Portsmouth.
